Here’s a checklist to get your garden ready for winter:

Remove Dead Plants: Clear out dead or spent plants, including annuals and any vegetables that are past their prime.

Prune Perennials: Trim back perennials that will die back in the winter, but leave some for structure if you enjoy their winter look.

Rake Leaves: Rake up fallen leaves from the grass and garden beds. You can compost them or shred them to use as mulch.

Weed Thoroughly: Pull out any weeds to prevent them from seeding and returning in spring.

Mulch Garden Beds: Add a fresh layer of mulch to insulate plants and protect soil from winter weather.

Cut Back Grasses: If you have ornamental grasses, trim them down to a manageable height or leave them for winter interest.

Harvest Remaining Vegetables and Herbs: Pick anything that’s still growing, and consider preserving or drying herbs.

Plant Spring Bulbs: Now is a great time to plant bulbs like tulips, daffodils, and crocuses for spring blooms.

Protect Young Trees or Shrubs: Wrap them with burlap or add a windbreak for protection if you’re in a windy or snowy area.

Happy gardening! 🍂
